Safer Spaces Policy,
San Francisco Zine Fest:

SF Zine Fest and organizers are committed to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We will not tolerate harassment at SFZF events in any form. Individuals violating the Safer Spaces Policy below may be sanctioned or expelled from the space or the event at the discretion of any SF Zine Fest organizer.

Please observe the following guidelines throughout the course of the weekend:

  • Respect peoples’ opinions, beliefs, differing states of being and differing points of view.

  • Always get explicit verbal consent before taking someone’s photo or crossing other personal boundaries.

  • Be responsible for your actions and aware that they may have an effect on others regardless of your original intent.

  • A safe and respectful community is everyone’s responsibility, therefore we encourage you to look out for one another, and speak up if you see someone who might be in trouble, or need assistance.

 

Harassment includes:

  • Offensive verbal comments

  • Deliberate intimidation

  • Stalking

  • Following

  • Photography or recording without consent

  • Sustained disruption of talks or other events

  • Inappropriate physical contact

  • Unwelcome sexual attention

  • Disruptive or disrespectful behavior

 

SFZF organizers are responsible for what happens at/during SFZF-specific events. We are not liable for or able to mediate outside issues. Should an issue arise with a participant or attendee during the fest, we will do our best to remedy the situation, either immediately or at a later time. It is highly encouraged that you speak to an event organizer if you feel that any part of the Safer Spaces policy has been disregarded by a SFZF participant.

 

SFZF staff reserves the right to ask attendees who are violating the Safer Spaces Policy to change or address their behavior(s) or language. If individuals violating the policy are unable to change or address their behavior(s) or language, they will be asked to leave the event.

 

There are a range of solutions to Safer Spaces concerns; please be aware that SFZF organizers will not always make public statements in relation to Safer Spaces decisions. Please understand that any policy related decisions by made by organizers are precipitated by serious discussion among event staff, with multiple viewpoints represented. Decisions are not made hastily or lightly.
